Good to know

Does this work on products and objects?

No, and it will tell you rather than hand you an empty file. The model is trained on people. Given a bottle or a shoe it finds nothing at all, so the tool says no person was found instead of returning a blank transparent picture.

Why only people?

Because of licensing, not laziness. The general-purpose models that handle any object are either restricted to non-commercial use, which this site cannot accept, or they do not run in a browser at all. The one that does run well and is freely licensed is a portrait model.

Does my picture get uploaded?

No. The model is downloaded to your browser and the photo is read on your own machine. Open your browser's network panel and watch: once the model has loaded, nothing further is sent.

How long does it take?

About half a second once the model is loaded. The first run downloads it, roughly 25 MB, with the real byte count shown while it does. Your browser caches it after that.

Why is the result bigger than the photo I started with?

A cut-out has to be a PNG, because that is what carries transparency, and a PNG of a photograph is usually larger than the JPG it came from. The size badge tells you which way it went rather than only reporting good news.

What is it good at, and what is it bad at?

Hair edges and soft outlines are what a portrait matting model is built for, so it handles them better than a general cut-out would. Heavy motion blur, glass and someone half out of frame are where it struggles.
