Upscale Image
Enlarge a picture to twice its size without the soft, stretched look.
Choose a picture to enlarge it to twice its width and height.
Good to know
How is this different from resizing?
Resizing stretches the pixels you already have, which is why an enlarged photo goes soft. This runs a model that reconstructs the edges and texture instead, so the result stays sharp at the larger size.
Does my picture get uploaded?
No. The model runs in your browser and the picture never leaves your machine.
How much bigger does it get?
Twice the width and twice the height, so four times the pixels. An 800 x 600 picture comes out 1600 x 1200.
Why does a large photo take a few minutes?
The picture goes through in tiles and the counter tells you which tile it is on, so the progress is real rather than a guess. Measured on a modern laptop GPU it handles roughly 17 pixels per millisecond, which makes a two megapixel photo about two minutes. It runs on your own hardware, so a faster machine is faster. You can cancel at any point.
Why is the first run slower?
It downloads the model, about 52 MB, and shows the real byte count while it does. Your browser caches it, so every run after that starts straight away.
Can it recover detail that was never there?
No, and be wary of anything that claims otherwise. It reconstructs plausible edges and texture from what is already in the picture. It cannot read a licence plate that was four pixels wide.
